Vehicle Collision Investigation:  July 22, 2018

On Sunday, July 22, 2018, at approximately 10 p.m., while in the 900 block of Eleanor Avenue, uniformed officers in a marked police vehicle from the Sacramento Police Department stopped a male subject riding a bicycle in the dark without lights, a violation of the California Vehicle Code.  Initially, the subject stopped and talked with the officers.  When asked whether he had a warrant, he attempted to flee on his bicycle. An officer attempted to detain him, and the suspect ran westbound on Eleanor Avenue.

A radio broadcast was made and additional officers responded to assist. A responding officer driving a marked police vehicle observed the suspect running toward him on Eleanor Avenue and attempted to assist in detaining the suspect. Initial investigation appears to indicate the officer lost control of his vehicle and collided with the suspect.  Officers immediately requested the Sacramento Fire Department to respond for medical aid. A crowd gathered in the area which necessitated the officers to form a skirmish line to protect the scene and allow fire personnel access to provide treatment.  After rendering initial first-aid on scene, the Sacramento Fire Department transported the suspect to a local area hospital for minor injuries. The suspect was identified as a 16-year-old male. He has been cited for resisting arrest.
