PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The R Street Streetscape Improvement Project, 16th Street to 18th Street, reconstructed the street right-of-way into a safe, pedestrian-friendly and multi-use public right-of-way. The improvements made included pavement, one travel lane in each direction, sidewalks, curb ramps, planting trees, street lighting and updates to the storm drainage system.

BENEFITS

The completed project provides critical pedestrian safety and accessibility improvements to the R Street Corridor located in the City of Sacramento’s Central City Community, while maintaining the street’s historic sense of shared space between pedestrians, bicyclists and vehicles.

COSTS AND FUNDING

The total project cost is $4.5 million. Funding is provided by federal and local matching funds.

SCHEDULE

The project was finished in the summer of 2015.
