RAMONA AVENUE EXTENSION – PHASE 1 IMPROVEMENTS (FOLSOM BOULEVARD TO BRIGHTON AVENUE)

Figure 1- Project Schematics

Project Description

The City of Sacramento, in cooperation with Caltrans, proposes to extend Ramona Avenue from its current terminus at Brighton Avenue to a new signalized intersection at Folsom Boulevard. The project will include a roundabout at the Brighton Avenue intersection, an at-grade crossing with the existing Placerville Industrial Lead Spur track, and a retaining wall for the existing Highway 50 embankment.

Benefits

This new connection will increase accessibility to the California State University, Sacramento campus, improve mobility for pedestrians and bicyclists in the region, encourage mixed-use redevelopment consistent with the City’s Master Plan, and offer an alternative travel path around the Power Inn Road/Howe Avenue/Folsom Boulevard intersection.

Costs and Funding

The estimated total construction cost is $6.0 million. Funding is provided by Measure A (1/2 cent sales tax), state, and federal funds.

Schedule

The project is expected to be advertised Summer 2017 and construction is scheduled through 2018. The City is currently getting authorization from Caltrans to proceed with construction.

Updates

The City has a signed utility agreement with SMUD for the relocation of an 115kV power pole that is in conflict with the proposed extension. The relocation plans are complete, but it was determined that there will be a significant cost savings to the City if the pole is relocated in conjunction with the construction of the project.
