Analysis of Operations

Facilities Maintenance maintains the City's buildings, grounds, utilities, equipment and mechanical and electrical systems. Maintained facilities have increased from 4.3 million square feet in 1987 to 6 million square feet in 2006, an increase of over 33%. Our responsibilities include facilities maintenance, administration of maintenance management systems, major renovations, maintenance of safety systems and energy management operations, material and cost control and management information systems. We maintain over 400 buildings and structures.

They are dispersed throughout the City, which covers 98 square miles. We are organized into line elements by trade with each element performing preventive building systems with a talented journey level workforce. Complex work and large renovations are normally done by outside contract. We provide on-call service for emergencies during non-business work hours and days. We have our own equipment for all standard work and have access to some unique equipment from other City units for specialty work.
