Street Maintenance

Pavement Maintenance & Preservation

Pavement maintenance and preservation provides maximum benefit to the traveling public by enhancing safety and driving conditions as well as improving ride comfort and aesthetics of the roadway. Available funds are efficiently utilized in a variety of road resurfacing techniques.

Each year, one-fourth of the city streets are examined on a rotational basis to update the Pavement Management Application (PMA) for determining the right treatment on the right street, at the right time. The City uses this information to update the multi-year resurfacing plan to keep the existing road infrastructure operating at a satisfactory level of service. Information about which streets are included in the resurfacing program is shown on the multi-year resurfacing plan.

The Department of Public Works prepares a Pavement Condition Report to summarize some key information about the condition of our street network and answer questions such as:

  • What does the City’s street network consist of?
  • What is the existing condition of the City’s streets?
  • What maintenance and rehabilitation strategies are deployed to improve street conditions?
  • Is the current funding adequate?
  • What is the most cost-effective way to implement a multi-year capital improvement program?
  • What are the impacts of additional funding?

The City has recently begun proactively helping to maintain alleys. Learn more about the maintenance services that are provided for different types of alleys.

To report a pothole, alley issue, or other street maintenance need, dial 311 (within the city limits), use the 311 app, or submit a service request via email.
