Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

solid waste iconProducts, such as paint cleaners, oil, batteries, and pesticides, require special care and should not be thrown in your residential waste containers. These products may contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients and are considered household hazardous waste. (HHW).

It is illegal to dispose of hazardous waste in the garbage, down storm drains, or onto the ground.

Chemicals in illegally or improperly disposed hazardous waste can be released into the environment and contaminate our air, water, and possibly the food we eat. The City provides several ways to legally dispose of hazardous waste including free drop off, or for some items, door to door pickup. Also many retailers have "Take It Back" programs for their hazardous materials.
