Unveiling the mystery of recycling symbols

Over the years, the plastics you've been accustomed to recycling have had an identity crisis.  Due to mixed messaging at the national, state and local levels, plus changes in manufacturing, consumers are suddenly unsure what plastics can be recycled.

Try choosing products that are packaged in plastics labeled 1 or 2, and avoid plastics labeled 6 or 7.  While plastics labeled 3, 4, or 5 are still recyclable, they are less likely to be recycled to make new products than 1's and 2's.
