Project Overview

Northgate Blvd. from Interstate 80 to Del Paso Blvd is home to a vibrant and diverse mix of businesses and community services. The corridor is surrounded by neighborhoods with a mix of housing types. These neighborhoods, and the corridor itself, were established during the 1920's when agriculture and the railroad were the economic foundation of the Sacramento area. There is an opportunity now to modernize the corridor to meet today’s safety and mobility needs.

Beginning in June 2021, the City will lead a comprehensive planning effort to identify community values and needs. Based on community consultation throughout the project, technical analysis, and best practices in roadway safety and design, the plan will identify an implementable vision for the corridor. Related Studies and Plans

There has been important work completed in the neighborhood that can be built upon:

  • The Northgate Boulevard Streetscape Master Plan  was adopted in 2006 and provides a background of the streetscape and land use vision for the corridor.
  • The Vision Zero School Safety Study was adopted in 2021 and includes Smythe Academy K-6 and Garden Valley Elementary School adjacent to the corridor.
