The City of Sacramento, Department of Utilities' contractor, Steve P. Rados, is installing a new 42-inch sewer pipeline using an open cut trench. Additional work includes installation of new sewer manholes, modifications to existing drain inlets, and new combined sewer service connections.

Important COVID-19 Information

The 3rd ST Sewer Upgrade Project has been deemed an essential infrastructure project and therefore construction will continue through the COVID-19 shelter in place order. City staff, contractors, and their workers shall take all reasonable precautions to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, California Department of Public Health, Sacramento County Department of Health Services, or any other governmental entity that issues COVID-19 recommendations. This includes, without limitation, those recommendations regarding sanitation of work sites, hand-washing, and social distancing.

3rd St. update

During Construction, affected streets will have lane or street closures, as necessary, and detours will be in place to safely reroute vehicles. Some street parking will be impacted near the construction site.

We understand this project will affect those living, working, and traveling through the area and our crews work diligently to minimize impacts.

"This project is critical to fulfilling the vision of a redeveloped Railyards as a vibrant mixed-use extension of our downtown, anchored by a state-of-the are Kaiser hospital on one end and the newest addition to Major League Soccer, the home of the Sacramento Republic, on the other," said Melissa Anguiano, City Economic Development Manager.

The Railyards is one of the nation's largest infill development projects, which will double the size of Sacramento's downtown, office, retail, tourism, residential, and government centers.

You will always have access to your home/business during construction. However, street parking will be restricted, and traffic will be re-routed to avoid construction areas. Please plan for traffic delays.

When will construction occur?

Construction is scheduled to occur between summer 2019 and winter 2020. See map above for the most updated information.

What are the construction hours?

Construction hours vary by area and are designed to minimize traffic, business, and resident impacts. Work may occur during week days, weekends or at night. See map above for the most updated information.

What should we expect during construction?

All large-scale construction projects are impactful to those living, traveling, and working in the area. During this project, large sections of roads will be opened up to install and access pipes, resulting in traffic closures, diversions, and reduced street parking. Additionally, there will be increased noise and odor. Crews will work to minimize all impacts.
