Message from the Chief

western city hahn

   "together we build"

As the police chief in my hometown, I understand the challenges of making Sacramento a city that cherishes and protects the dreams of everyone.

Raised in Oak Park, I joined the Sacramento Police Department at age 19. I love and cherish this community and this police department. To me, they are family.  See full story.

Every day and every night, Sacramento police are called upon to deal with people experiencing acute mental health distress because there is nobody else to do the job.

The Sacramento Police Department received 10,999 mental health-related calls for service last year, 1,000 more than in 2017. This year, the numbers are even higher, with an average of 35 calls every day.

Click Here for a recent story on SacPD's efforts in dealing with these type of incidents, or visit our Crime page for additional statistics related to mental health calls for service.
