myth-informed?
There’s a lot of myth-information out there when it comes to FOG! Here’s the real truth:
Hot water—Using hot water and soap does not dissolve oils and grease as they go down the drain. Initially, hot may help, but grease will stick to pipes after it cools.
Garbage disposals—A garbage disposal doesn’t make fatty and greasy food scraps just disappear.
FOG can still clog the pipes once it passes the blades.
Not my pipes—Just because FOG hasn’t clogged your pipes yet doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen! Fats, oils and grease can be building up in your pipes and sewer lines—even though you can’t tell—and a nasty clog and or sewer overflow might be just a drain away.
Liquid grease—It’s NOT okay to pour grease down the drain even if it’s liquid at room temperature. Liquid cooking oils like canola & olive oil float on wastewater and easily stick to sewer pipes. The oily film can collect food particles and other solids and create a blockage in the pipes.
Healthy oils—Just because a healthier cooking oil is good for your body, doesn’t mean it’s better for your drain. When it comes to clogs, healthy oils are just as bad as other oils.
